After deciding the sector according to the qualification and area of interest start preparing for the entrance exam, as each sector is having a bit different pattern of examination
Most of the examination is objective in nature and follows the pattern as follows:
1) Quantitative aptitude
2) Reasoning
3) English
4) General knowledge OR
5) Computer knowledge OR
6) Respective Sector paper
All objective-type questions are asked. Some exams have phase-I and phase-II patterns. The above one is phase-I and Phase-II in some examinations is descriptive in nature or objective.
According to your choice, you have to decide which is a sector of your interest.
Applicants need to apply through the PSU websites which normally open in the period between the GATE form registration and the actual GATE exam. Candidates who fall within the required cut-offs of individual PSUs are then called for PI. A ratio of 7/8 :1 is maintained while calling candidates for the PI. This is because not all the eligible candidates ( AIR holders ) eventually go for PSU jobs.
One surely needs to perform well to get through a PSU interview call. Understanding a technical concept & implementing the same in terms of solving a numerical question on your own is one thing but explaining the same to a group of 4–5 individuals requires a test of your communication skills as well & this is where most of the candidates falter. Remember this is a management profile job & the PSUs are looking for candidates who are team players, to begin with, but at the same time have the potential to lead a team of technocrats two-three years down the line. Some PSUs also conduct GD.
Normally, for final selection, most of the PSUs give 70% weightage to the GATE Score & 30% to the GD/PI rounds.
All the best !!!
